A good business airline credit card for business travelers who fly mainly in the Southwest and spend more than $10,000 a year.
Review of the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card
The Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Business Credit Card is a great card for frequent Southwest business travelers. As a sign-up bonus you'll earn 60,000 points when you spend $2,000 in purchases in the 1st 3 months, which can get you at least 1 roundtrip flight on Southwest. After your first year, you'll earn 6,000 bonus points every year after your cardmember anniversary.
Although this card doesn't offer automatic A-List tier status or an automatic companion ticket, you can earn those perks with points:
- Tier Status: For every $10,000 spent in a calendar year, you'll earn 1,500 tier-qualifying points (up to 15,000 annually). Tier-qualifying points help you reach A-List or A-List Preferred status faster which gets you perks like priority check-in, same-day standby, points bonuses (25% for A-List and 100% for A-list Preferred), and more.
- Companion Pass: If you earn 110,000 qualifying points in a year or take 100 qualifying one-way flights in a calendar year you qualify for a Companion Pass, which allows one companion to fly free (plus taxes and fees). Once you qualify, you can use the Companion Pas for the remainder of the calendar year and the following calendar year.
The main drawbacks to this card are that it doesn't have bonus categories for office expenses and that as a regional airline, Southwest offers limited flight destinations and has no partners to transfer points to.
The Bottom Line
Good no-frills business airline card if you fly in the Southwest, but because it lacks bonus categories for common office expenses and flight destinations are limited you may need to supplement with an additional business card that offers more bonus categories and more flexible redemption options.
